Meet Dr. Mike Kochanski (DC, FIAMA)
“I just wish I had known then what I know now!”
Have you ever thought that? Wouldn’t you like to share that knowledge with someone you love?
My name is Dr. Michael Kochanski. Let me tell you a little bit about my story…
I grew up in a suburb of Milwaukee and got my bachelor degree from the University of Wisconsin. In college, I began having difficulty breathing and chest tightness. One morning, I woke up with what felt like a 100-pound brick on my chest. I thought, “I am way too young to be having a heart attack!”. Shortly after, on my 20th birthday, I could hardly blow out the candles on my cake. My doctor diagnosed me with asthma and gave me a prescription for an inhaler. But I did not want to rely on drugs that never worked that well anyway.
Chiropractic Journey
I was still undecided on what I wanted to do in life. I always knew that I wanted to choose a profession where I could help people. After a friend recommended seeing a chiropractor, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life. However, I was a little skeptical before my first visit…
The chiropractor examined me and explained that my spine was out of place and irritating the nerves. Then he treated me by performing an adjustment to my spine. The adjustment didn’t hurt, it actually felt good. I started feeling better right away, and my chest tightness was relieved. I thought, “Wow, I could actually use MY hands to help others feel better. How cool is that?”
I chose to get my doctor of chiropractic at the National University of Health Sciences because of it’s strong emphasis on science as well as the art of chiropractic. Being in Lombard, it also was close to Chicago, which I think is on of the greatest cities in the world. After graduating from chiropractic school, I went on to study acupuncture and received a Fellowship from the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture (FIAMA).
We strive to be a family practice that listens to our patient’s needs and provide safe, effective treatment to help quickly decrease pain. Once we stabilize the condition, our goal is to improve the overall function and maintain the health of the “problem” areas. I enjoy working with athletes of all ages and skill levels and I also use the McKenzie Method to help diagnose and treat low back conditions with exercises that research shows are very effective in reducing pain and giving the patient a self-treatment option.
Many times we see patients who have tried “everything else.” We love it when someone says “I wish I would have come here years ago!”
