How does massage work?
Massage works by kneading and stroking muscles to relax them, and uses friction to stimulate soft tissues. This type of therapy can increase blood flow and lymph circulation while breaking up scar tissue that develops between muscle fibers.
When and why is massage used?
Therapeutic massage can vary with each individuals condition, age and body type. The massage therapists consult the doctors to understand the patient’s condition before the massage begins. Massage is useful in many conditions that require decreased muscle tightness, reduction of swelling, muscle mobilization or simply body relaxation for people who are “stressed out.” If you are a new patient, the doctors will go over your treatment plan and help decide if massage therapy is right for your particular condition.
What can I expect?
The massages are performed in a private room with licensed massage therapists. The patient can remove as much clothing as they feel comfortable with. Only areas that need treatment are exposed, other areas are covered with a sheet. The patient should feel relaxed and comfortable while on the massage table. In deep tissue massage, a lubricating oil or gel is used to reduce friction during the stroking and compression of soft tissue. The massage may also include stretching and myofascial release to increase mobility in joints. We encourage you to give feedback to the therapist if you feel uncomfortable in any way.
Does health insurance pay for massages?
We will check your insurance benefits to see if there is any coverage, however, most insurance plans do not cover deep tissue massage. If you do not have coverage or health insurance, the price is $80 for 1 hour and $40 for ½ hour. Payment is required at the time of service.
